Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment

The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is the government’s lead business-facing agency.  Their purpose is to grow the New Zealand economy to provide a better standard of living for all New Zealanders.

MBIE deliver policy, advice, regulation and services that have a real impact on New Zealand businesses and the environment they operate in.

Pakihi is funded through He kai kei aku ringa – the governments Crown-Māori strategy for Māori Economic Development. The strategy sets some ambitious targets for Māori progress from 2017 to 2021. The overarching goal is to increase Māori median income by 20 per cent. For whānau this translates into increasing the amount of putea that goes into their hands.

To reach this goal, the Pakihi initiative was born and aims to improve business capability for whānau at different stages of the business life cycle.
